54% of the children picked up by Child & Family Protective Services in the Permian Basin are sent out of our region due to a severe shortage of families willing to provide that foster care.

The Initiative

The "ONE MORE HOME" Initiative is an initiative by pastors and agencies in our community to call the body of Christ to step up and respond to this significant need in the community by releasing 200 families into the foster system in the next 18-24 months beginning on Jan 15th, 2012.

Oilfield Joke for Friday: The Cowboy Company Man

Stan was a Company Man that had recently been relocated to West Texas from the East Coast and he decided that since he now wore boots and a Stetson all the time, he should own a horse. 

 He heard about an old Mexican man who had a horse for sale and gave him a call.  The old man said the horse was well broken,  gentle enough for his grandchildren to ride, and that he wanted $250 for him.   

Suspiciously, Stan said, "$250 isn't much for that kind of horse.  What's wrong with him?"  The old man said, "He don't look so good."

Because the price was right, Stan decided to go over and take a look at the horse.  The old Mexican man took him out to the corral and there was a teenage granddaughter leading a good-looking bay gelding around  with a piece of baler twine and 3 little kids on his back.  Stan had seen enough... he slapped leather, peeled off $250 in cash before the old man could raise the price, and included $20 extra for delivery.

The next morning, the gelding was in his corral. He went out, saddled him up, and rode down to the creek... where the bay immediately walked off the creek bank.  As they fell 5 feet into the water, Stan bailed off and watched in dismay as the horse got up, ran down the creek until he bounced off a big boulder, took a left and hit a tree dead-on and then stood there, shaking.  The company man realized the horse was blind.  

He led the horse home, unsaddled him, went to the house and immediately called the old Mexican man.  

"Why didn't you tell me that the horse was blind?" he demanded.  The old man said, "I did, Senor.  I told you he don't " look " so good."

Oilfield Joke: Bob the Toolpusher Calls the Police

Late one evening, Bob the Tool Pusher heard some strange noises outside.  He peered out the back door and saw 2 or 3 guy stealing things out of his barn.He phoned the police and was asked, "Have they made an attempt to enter your house?" Slightly miffed by the question, Bob replied, "No -- But they haven't emptied the barn yet." The dispatcher said all patrols were busy, but she would send the first one that was available. Bob waited a minute and called the police again, "I called you a minute ago because there were people in my barn. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot all the SOB's!" Then he hung up. Within five minutes, 3 police cars, a Swat team, and 2 ambulances showed up at Bob's and caught the burglars red-handed. Accusingly, the officer in charge said to Bob, "I thought you told the dispatcher you shot them." Unconcerned, Bob replied, "I thought she said there weren't any units available."

Oilfield Joke: A Driller's Dog

An Oilman heard that a local Drilling contractor had a blue heeler for sale that could talk.  Intrigued, he drove to the contractor's house to investigate. 

 He was met at the yard gate by a blue heeler that said, "Howdy."

Astonished, the oilman replied, "It's true... You can talk.  Tell me about yourself." 

The blue heeler said, "Well, I discovered my gift of talking pretty young and I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA about my gift, and in no time they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies eight years running. The jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger and I wanted to settle down. So I took a job with the drilling contractor as a consultant, got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired." 

The Drilling Contractor came out as the dog was telling his story.  When the dog finished, the Oilman asked the  Contractor what the dog was worth. 

The contractor said, "I'll be lucky if I can get $10 for him." 

The Oilman said, "This dog is amazing. Why on earth do you think he's only worth $10?" 

The contractor replied, "Because the dog is a habitual liar.  Just like now... He never worked for the CIA."

Oilfield Joke: The Phone Call

The company safety meeting was over and Tom the Toolpusher and his associates congregated at a nearby watering hole in Odessa.  They slid some tables together and it was bedlam with people coming and going and all talking at the same time.  A cell phone rang and Tom snatched it up, engaged the hands-free speaker-function and answered. Everyone at the table stopped talking to listen. Tom: "Hello" Woman: "Honey, it's me. Is the safety meeting over?"  Tom: “Yep” Woman: "I'm at the mall and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $1,000. Can I buy it?" Tom: "Sure... Go ahead if you like it that much." Woman: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership. I saw one I really liked." Tom: "How much?" Woman: "$65,000" Tom: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options." Woman: "Great! Oh, and one more thing... The house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $700,000." Tom: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer, but only for $650,000." Woman: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you!" Tom: "Bye, I love you, too." Tom ended the call and there was complete silence as everyone stared at him with astonishment and awe.  Tom  held up the phone and innocently asked. “Anyone know whose phone this is?”

Oilfield Joke: The Company Man

A company man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a Man below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me,
can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I
don't know where I am."

The Man below replied, "You're in a hot air balloon hovering
approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees
north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"You must be a Drilling Engineer," said the Company Man. 

"I am," replied the Man,
"How did you know?"

"Well," answered the Company Man, "everything you told me is, technically
correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information, and the fact
is I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything,
you've delayed my trip."

The Drilling Engineer below responded, "You must be a Company Man." "I am," replied the Company Man, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the Drilling Engineer, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault."
